Type D Storage

Type D Storage is a building where hazardous substances are stored.


  • With a fire-resistance rating of 240/240/240 minutes
  • Made of structurally strong materials such as brick, block concrete, and reinforced concrete
  • With a reinforced concrete roof with a fire-resistance rating of 240/240/240 minutes
  • That is part of a secondary containment system
  • That has a door with a fire-resistance rating of -/240/60 minutes unless the building is standalone, in which case a lesser rated door may be used

Type 3 Workrooms

Type 3 Workrooms are a building or room where hazardous substances are held in open containers or used and constructed in accordance with the following:


  • Floor, walls, and ceiling have a minimum fire-resistance rating of 240/240/240 minutes
  • Every door opens towards the outside of the building or room, is self-closing, and has a fire-resistance rating of at least -/240/60 minutes
  • Every window in the building or room complies with NZS 4232.2:1988
  • That is not occupied either in whole or in part as a dwelling
  • That has a secondary containment system with a capacity of at least 100% of the total pooling potential
